We had been to other locations around the Caribbean, but never Mexico/Cancun. We had the impression that Cancun was more for the co-ed college crowd, but this resort came recommended. We really loved our stay. It is definitely family friendly, but the vibe IS NOT cheesy character/ gimmicky kid centric. It’s family friendly in that kids are welcome, and there are kids activities, but it is still very relaxing and comfortable for adults. The resort was SPOTLESS. Very clean. Gardens were impeccably kept. The service was excellent. Everyone was friendly, and went above and beyond. There are reviews about waiting for dinner seating—-We honestly never waited. I don’t know if the time of year matters? We were there the third week of April. The food was good. The food and dining experience at the more fine dining French restaurant was honestly A+ on par with our experience at self described fine French restaurants in Boston, where we are from. The Mexican breakfast offerings at Maris were super. The rest of the restaurants were A minus - B plus. Our children honestly loved the unlimited room service, and would order basically a second dinner every night LOL. The room service cheeseburgers were SUPER good. The poor reviews about the food were 100% not true in our experience. The pools and beach were excellent. The pool was the perfect temperature. The waiters for the pool/beachside drinks were very attentive. If we ordered drinks every time offered, we would definitely not be able to walk at the end of the day. LOL. I never saw a drink menu, but they had no difficulty bringing anything we ordered. The beach was also clean/ spotless. There were decent waves, but nothing crazy. We chose a junior ocean view suite, and we chose the preferred club. Our children are on the younger side (12, 9, 7). We are tight knit, so it was fine for us. It was a decent value, honestly, but for older kids who need more space, you might want to splurge on a larger room. The view was beautiful. We were really only in the room to sleep. There are some negative reviews about the Preferred club. I honestly disagree. The staff in the Preferred Club lounge were extremely friendly, helpful, and warm. The heavy snacks, and drinks were excellent. The calm vibe in the lounge were all great. We were able to get a Bali Bed every day, and it was a super nice benefit. The evening entertainment was kind of cheesy, but our kids liked it, and the drinks were good and plentiful- so - no complaints …..the “fun” staff- like the Zumba and other activity instructors were fun/nice, etc. All in all we had a terrific time, and would recommend it. We will likely be back in a few years. Hope this helps. Sorry for any typos- I wrote this on a phone, etc.

So, my wife is big on reviews. She saw a few bad ones mixed in with the others and almost moved us to a different spot. Complaints about food, staff, grounds, etc. Well, I am glad she didn’t. This resort is beautiful and the grounds are impeccable. The rooms are nice and the staff took great care of us. Buffet food was on par but the restaurant options were delicious. Very good food for a resort. Some complained about wait times but we didn’t experience that at all. We got a table right away for every meal. The resort is kid friendly, not kiddie. Lots of activities for all age group to do. If you want a poolside bed, be prepared to get up early. The beach is very pretty but not the best beach I’ve ever been to like others have mentioned. There were several weddings during our visit. There was music during but nothing too loud or bothersome. I did play the golf course too. It’s in great shape with firm, fast fairways. The greens roll so true as well. Overall, you should enjoy your experience. Good vacationing!!!

Loved everything about this resort except the food. The rooms are very large and nice, and I got the basic garden view room. The staff were all very nice and always willing to help. Pool service was great. The pools are amazing. Food is lacking. The buffet is only good for breakfast. Went to the dinner buffet twice and it was hard to find anything good. Ate lots of chips and guac and french fries. I did get a reservation at the Habachi one night and that was the best meal of the week.

A very nice resort on a good stretch of beach but I would NOT recommend booking a stay here as of spring 2025 solely based on the food service. Dinner Reservations are not accepted and only 3 restaurants plus the buffet are open each evening- this resulted in 1-2 hour waits to be seated for dinner. Once seated a meal still took 1.5-2 hours with extremely slow service. They have to be very understaffed and majority of the staff seems unhappy. Food is just decent once you get it. Things we enjoyed: -the pools -kids loved swim up bars for frozen drinks -That’s a Wrap for lunch most days -the resort never felt overly crowded (which is why it’s surprising dinner waits were so crazy) -the beach was good - took the sailboat out a couple times and saw sea turtles -entertainment (kids loved the daily games and the evening shows) - our poolside waiter, Fernando, was great everyday - our best dinner was at Fusion with our waiter German -Jonathan at the restaurants was helpful in figuring out a solution for our wait times -Secrets spa (bring a bathing suit for the hydra-pools) Hopefully they can figure out dining because it is a beautiful place.

While rooms and location is good. Two major flaws: (1) The food scene is mediocre. Very limited restaurants open for breakfast and lunch outside the buffet. Then the buffet has extremely mediocre options when it comes to food. For dinner they don’t allow reservation and say you have to walk up - but then get slammed with 2 hour waits and end back up in the mediocre buffet. All the bars are inadequately staffed so you wait a long time for drinks etc. when seated at dinner - th waiters take 10-15 mins to show up (see photo of most of family departed Trea Colores as we waited 15 mins before being served water). Also they advertise you can go to Secrets to eat, but guess what - your kids are not allowed. Plan on your kids getting super frustrated as you wait. (2) The advertising seems to suggest that there are all the amenities- but things like the lazy river are off access unless you’re a preferred member. So are many sections of the property. All and all - definitely not worth the price IMO.
