Overall, the experience was positive—the resort is unique, the staff are friendly and professional, and the food is generally very good. However, there are a few important drawbacks to be aware of. The resort is situated on a long, narrow island. The villas are located at the north and south ends, lining the coast. The eastern part of the island houses the main buffet restaurant, one à la carte restaurant, the pool, and the night bar. The western end is home to the Sunset Bar and the iconic sandbank often featured in promotional photos. The idea is that guests spend most of their time either in their villa or on the eastern side of the island, and then head over to the western side around 5 PM to enjoy the sunset. Our Experience with the Beach Villa was really disappointing. Our main reason for choosing this resort was the beach villas. We were assigned one in the northeast east section of the island. The villa itself was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. However, to our disappointment, there was no actual beach. Behind the villa, there were about 10 meters of sand followed by a 2-3 meter-high barrier of large brown rocks—completely blocking any view or access to the ocean. Every 20 meters or so, there were small openings between the rocks to pass through, but beyond them was a deep reef area, often with strong waves. Additionally, there was no outdoor shower, meaning you had to walk through the bedroom to cool off indoors. As a result, we noticed that most guests in the northern beach villas rarely used their so-called "beach" area. To be frank, these should be marketed as "sand villas," not beach villas. The resort should be more transparent and provide photos and clear descriptions of what these villas actually look like. After raising our concerns with the hotel, we were offered a paid upgrade to a water villa, which provided a much better experience—although it wasn’t what we initially wanted. For those looking for true beach villas, only the ones on the southern part of the island—or the premium villas 404 to 420—have proper beach access. Villas 401 to 403 also have limited or no access to the water. However, booking those premium villas would have cost us an additional $4,000–$5,000 per week, at which point we would have considered other options in the Maldives or even the French Polynesia. Premium All-Inclusive Package: The food was consistently very good. However, booking à la carte restaurants required contacting the reception constantly, as many time slots were always booked. A major downside was that room service is not included in the Premium All-Inclusive package. You must pay full price for it—at rates comparable to New York City restaurants. For a package labelled "Premium All-Inclusive," I expected room service to be included, or at least offered at a discounted supplement. Arrival Experience: This is an area where the resort could significantly improve. After a 20-hour journey and over 8 hours without a meal (including a 5+ hour transfer from Malé airport), we arrived at our villa to find that all restaurants were closed. Our only option was to walk to the other end of the island to get a pizza from the beach café. The water bottles provided were left outside the fridge, so warm water was all that was available. Additionally, we were informed that all restaurant reservations were fully booked for the next two days. There was no welcome snack, fruit plate, or anything of the sort. At this price point, and based on our experience at other similar resorts, this felt very underwhelming. Getting Around the Island: The island is hot—and walking from one side to the other can take 15–20 minutes. There is no central path connecting the north and south; you have to walk the full perimeter. There are two shuttle buses that loop around the island, but they are inconsistent. It’s possible to start walking and never encounter one. An app is available to track the buses, but timing your movement around the island isn’t what most guests want to deal with on vacation.

Our stay at Dhigali Resort in the Maldives was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment we landed in the Maldives until we left, we felt completely taken care of. The resort's staff provided a seamless experience, ensuring every detail was perfect from the start. The resort itself is a tropical paradise. The white sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and lush greenery create an atmosphere of pure relaxation. Our beach villa was beautifully designed, blending luxury and comfort, with direct access to the beach and lagoon. Waking up to the sound of waves and breathtaking views every morning was simply magical. One of the highlights of our stay was the incredible marine life just steps from our villa. We were lucky enough to spot turtles and reef sharks, along with an abundance of vibrant, colorful fish while snorkeling right outside our door. The underwater world surrounding Dhigali is truly spectacular and added an unforgettable element to our trip. What truly set Dhigali apart was the level of service. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, attending to every request with genuine warmth and professionalism. Whether it was organizing excursions, recommending activities, or providing impeccable dining experiences, the attention to detail was unmatched. Speaking of dining, the variety of restaurants at the resort was impressive. Each meal was a culinary journey, offering fresh, flavorful dishes that catered to every palate. The sunset cocktails at the beach bar were a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploring the island. We also had the opportunity to enjoy some of the resort's activities, from snorkeling in vibrant coral reefs to relaxing at the spa. Each experience was well-organized and added to the overall enjoyment of our stay. Leaving Dhigali was bittersweet, as we were reluctant to say goodbye to such a beautiful place and the people who made our stay so special. We cannot recommend this resort highly enough for anyone seeking a luxurious, serene, and unforgettable Maldivian getaway. Dhigali truly exceeded all of our expectations.
