Natasha
This was our 3rd visit to Jamaica, 1st time to Negril. We stayed at Couples Tower Isle in January 2020 and then at Iberostar Joia Hall in Montego Bay in 2024. Both resorts were very different, but exceptional and we agreed that we would visit them again. As a traveler I enjoy visiting different resorts and areas so we decided Negril was the next destination as it is known for its beaches. Since we had such a great experience at Couples in Tower Isle we decided to stay with the brand again. I will start with the positives of our 6-night stay. The service and staff were friendly and exceptional staff were smiling and laughing despite not having electricity at their own homes as the island recovers from the recent hurricane. Shout out to Sherika, Orlando and Calesha (Bartenders), Paulina (housekeeping), Dennis and Michaela (Entertainment), Yunneshia (Guest Services) and all of the other staff members. Housekeeping came twice a day, which is unnecessary in my opinion, but others may enjoy it. The variety of water activities was a plus. I enjoyed the guides for the glass bottom boat. The amount of activities was great and the entertainment staff worked hard. Our favorite dining experience was the Jamaican Beach night. The food was delicious (one of two nights we enjoyed the food), performance was lively and the staff worked hard to put the show together. I like the fact that the resort seems to care for the kitties and they maintained the plant life. If you are looking for a party resort this is not it. I am young, but an old soul and me and my partner enjoy a low-key relaxing resort. Now for the most disappointing part of our trip was the food. We are both "foodies" and the variety of food, only having two ala-carte restaurants for the entire resort was a disappointment. I am not sure if the food options were related to the recent hurricane or the quality has gone down since the pandemic. At Couples Tower Isle they were a much smaller resort, with more ala-carte restaurants Asian, French, snack bar, buffet, etc. Food is what makes our trip and we were very disappointed. Again not much variety, food was not seasoned, it was not flavorful and just pathetic for the cost of the trip. We did attend the repeater's dinner and it was ok, but lackluster. I will say that I enjoyed certain items such as the creme brulee at Feather's, the lobster tail and cheesecake at the repeater's dinner, but the food as a whole was disheartening. The gym equipment needs to be upgraded and I was not a fan that it was outdoors. The rooms are also outdated, but comfortable. In conclusion, we would not stay again for the simple fact of the food and the distance from the airport.

If you are looking for an opulent shiny new resort, you’re looking in the wrong place. No giant high rise buildings, no fancy shmancy ballrooms, no Japanese chef with a blowtorch. Numerous low-rise dated but decently maintained buildings. Nice accommodations but nothing special. So why have we been there 9 times? And why have countless others returned 20+ times? In short, activities and food. Multiple tennis and pickleball courts with included clinics and private lessons. An olympic sized pool, scuba dives included, great beach with numerous water sports. Obviously, food is a matter taste, but it lines up with our taste buds perfectly. We love it. Going back next week.

We were there during the Christmas holidays. If we had known that it was a five-star hotel only on paper, we would never have chosen this resort. Absolutely unsuitable for demanding clients. Very outdated rooms, the bed even without a headboard, so we couldn't even lean on it. We still survived the extremely neglected furniture, but the cleanliness in the rooms was at a level we hadn't experienced even in a three-star hotel in Tunis 33 years ago. Terrible unhygienic conditions, only superficial cleaning. We changed rooms 3 times, but it was still terrible if you accept the order and standard of a five-star hotel. This is a maximum of 4*, you have to close your eyes to that. The pools are a disaster, crumbling concrete and dirt. In 14 days we didn't dare to swim in them even once. If this resort wasn't located on the most beautiful beach far and wide, we would never have chosen it and we will definitely never return here. Every day I was tense in the room from dirt and disgust. The staff was nice and helpful 50% to 50%. The beach, food, drinks and sports center were okay, but that's extremely little for such an expensive vacation with a flight from Europe. Every complaint lasted for days and we had to insist on it several times a day. We had to complain about everything and more to the travel agency because of the expensive price, which did not meet the standard of a 5* hotel at all, and we also complained based on the photos. Big disappointment, we definitely do not recommend to demanding customers. It was a big mistake. And this terrible feeling on the spot was not changed by the management, who tried to make up for the unhygienic and dirty conditions and many other complaints with excuses and a 100 euro credit in the hotel shops. This hotel is really only for undemanding tourists, who probably haven't experienced the true service and level of 5* resorts elsewhere around the world. Huge disappointment. When management and especially employees understand that luxury is not just about expensive things, but first and foremost about cleanliness, feelings and experiences – that it is necessary to actively listen to guests, perceive their body language, anticipate their needs, notice the little things, solve problems with perspective and not take them personally, not perceive the guest as complicated or demanding, but find a way to fulfill their expectations – then real art will happen. So far, this resort is extremely far from that and galactically far from 5*.
Me
Let me start by saying that I walked in with a negative attitude, because we have been let down by so many (supposed) 5 star resorts that had cost a lot more money. Within 15 minutes, I was pleasantly surprised. I will be returning! First, let me say, were there issues? Yes, but you are on an island with tropical surroundings and an ocean in front. But, the issues were small and mostly we never even mentioned, because they were small. So small, they did not even matter to us. There were a few small issues that we mentioned (not looking for results) and they were immediately addressed. Mostly to our surprise. The tropical surrounding were beautiful and well maintained. The beach was awesome and well maintained. The food was above average to yummy, with NO complaints. The room was cold, orderly and well kept. The activities were more than we had time to enjoy, but enjoyed the ones we participated. The staff was above wonderful. Always smiling and never complaining. They went above and beyond to ensure you were happy, comfortable and having a good time. No complaints and only compliments. They actually had real top shelf liquors. We spoke to many guests and NONE complained about the resort and most to many were returned guests with many of those with multiple returns. Keep doin what you are doing and you will out last all the big name, big money, no return resorts. Great job! (The sunset photos were from our back porch.

Review: Swept Away, Negril, Jamaica Swept Away in Negril is truly a special place—where natural beauty, heartfelt hospitality, and unforgettable sunsets come together effortlessly. From the moment you arrive, the staff welcomes you with genuine warmth, kindness, and attention that makes you feel not like a guest, but like family. Every interaction is filled with care, smiles, and an authentic Jamaican spirit that stays with you long after you leave. The quality of the experience is exceptional—from the comfort and cleanliness of the spaces to the thoughtful details that make each day flow smoothly. Whether it’s enjoying delicious meals, relaxing by the beach, or simply taking in the peaceful surroundings, everything feels well cared for and intentionally designed to support rest and joy. And then there are the sunsets—absolutely breathtaking. Each evening, the sky transforms into a living painting of gold, pink, and deep orange, reflected over the calm Caribbean Sea. Watching the sun slowly melt into the horizon at Swept Away is not just beautiful—it’s grounding, magical, and unforgettable. Swept Away is a place that nourishes the body, lifts the heart, and quiets the mind. A true gem in Negril, and a destination I would return to again
