The private beach was full of algae and impossible to swim in. The rooms were not properly cleaned. The kettle was shorting. The water tank behind our room flooded put our porch and one of the bedrooms. Some of the staff were nice but some were very rude. I have been coming here for 15 years and sorry to say that this will be my last time. Way too expensive for what you are getting now.

We stayed here for 2 weeks as all inclusive. The entire staff were so welcoming and happy to please us. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel itself while quite old is very large and the amenities are quite nice for Tobago. We enjoyed the use of the gym, pool and the watersports equipment. Paddle boards, kayaks and snorkelling were always available and the enclosed lagoon is perfect for first timers. The variety of fish to see in and just out of the lagoon is amazing. The area where the resort is located has a large variety of shops, restaurants and night life. Adrian and Esther were always friendly and happy and genuinely interested in our satisfaction. We definitely will be back.

You can’t fault the location of this hotel, it’s stunning. The small beach falls gently away into a man-made lagoon which is ideal for families with young children. The beach is dotted with palm trees offering plenty of shade in the heat of the day. There are lots of loungers available although many of them are worn out and need retiring. Non-motorised water sports are available and there is also a dive centre onsite which I was informed was very well organised and the dives were good, although I didn’t use this facility personally. The lagoon is good for snorkelling with plenty of fish to see. Sunsets are beautiful as the hotel faces due west. Staff at the hotel are for the most part friendly and helpful, albeit a little demotivated. This is understandable considering the number of complaints they have to deal with on a daily basis. None of them seem to have direction, if only someone was in charge. Sadly the negatives far out weigh the positives. The first being a lack of hot running water for the first four days of our stay. Staff were apologetic but there wasn’t an urgency to resolve the problem until I spoke to the manager. In fairness he came to see me straight away and promised to resolve the issue as soon as possible. The resolution came by way of an independent shower head with built in heater which was installed without any instructions so I had to go back to reception again to ask for someone to show us how it worked! Another couple who had the same issue also had a shower head fitted but every time they used it, it tripped the electric fuse box. So hot and cold running water is a bit of a lottery depending on which room you’re in. Laundry service is also hit and miss. My items came back all screwed up in a bag so had to be sent back and re-laundered. Also one night the blanket disappeared off our bed, so back to reception yet again to ask for it back. Towels and bed linen were very tired and worn out and could do with replacing, as could the pillows. Sometimes we were fortunate to get a foot mat and a hand towel, sometimes not. Moving on to the restaurant. Breakfast consists of the usual egg station, toast, pastries, limited choice of cereal etc. Hot food includes bacon, tomatoes (sometimes) mushrooms (sometimes), hash brown potatoes, baked beans, fried plantain and random veg. Tea and coffee was awful. The evening meal was mainly a La carte with a choice of starter, main and dessert. There is a veggie option you would soon get bored with as there’s only one choice per day. Service can be slow but staff do their best. One time my dessert took 40 minutes and when it turned up it was a sloppy mess! Food was okay most of the time, but don’t get too excited or you’ll be disappointed. Lunch was always at the beach bar. Sounds great eh? Salad choice invariably ran out and the chips were always cold. The BBQ options were fresh fish (always good) chicken pieces, burgers (usually cold or ran out) and hot dogs which never looked tasty. There’s not a lot of shade at lunch time so it’s hard to find a table where you can eat comfortably. There are two bars: Bobsters which is open when the restaurant is open. It’s like a dark cave, ice cold from the aircon, dated furniture and no atmosphere. There is however a gallery area outside this bar which is nicer. The beach bar, Buccanals offers warm beer and weak cocktails most days, and hosts BBQ evenings twice a week. Get there early or you won’t find a seat or any of food for that matter! Sadly this bar closes at 6pm on non BBQ evenings which is such a shame as the location is lovely. Oh and did I mention the 80s time warp? The whole hotel (and I mean the whole hotel) is painted in a sickly peach colour with matching coordinated soft furnishings in the rooms (which have obviously also been there since the 80s). This hotel is in desperate need of a major refurbishment. That’s my review in a nutshell. Would I return? Most definitely not. Up

Classic old time colonial resort. The antique atmosphere of the hotel makes you feel like you are stepping back into the early 1900s. The facilities are definitely old, but that just adds to the charm. And without question or doubt, the best location on the island. Walking distance from everything, including the airport, and with a private, perfectly manicured beach, there is no better place to be. Staff is friendly and attentive. Excellent complimentary breakfast. If you want a shiny modern all inclusive, go to Mexico. If you want the true Caribbean, this is the spot!

Very run down hotel . Bathrooms are the worst!!. Old faucets , low water pressure . The decor is very old /dated . The staff was very helpful & nice . The food was great, but generally the hotel needs some major upgrades
