We had arrived from a LONG day of traveling and we were greeted with a smile and a wet towel. When checking in Karen heard us talking about how hungry we were and they grabbed us some plaintain chips and beer, very sweet. She walked us to our room down quite a few stairs which is completely fine (I only mention stairs if you prefer elevators and no stairs). I’m a travel agent and had mentioned it was our anniversary so when we got in the room they had decorated with balloons and a bottle of champagne. Again, very sweet. Our view was amazing and this place has very many great views. We were able to splurge on a swim up suite which was well worth it. We had room 101 one which as someone else had mentioned that sometimes in the morning it can be loud because it must be below the kitchen. Dinner was disappointing, bland, but my banana flambé for dessert made up for it. One of the best desserts I’ve ever had! First night much like the rest we slept like babies. It’s a very quiet resort. We went in late June so not their busiest time anyway. My husband loved how quiet and peaceful it was. We met a few younger couples there on their honeymoon not just older couples. Breakfast took a while the first day but not the rest of the stay. Not uncommon as we learned eating other places. We had the pleasure of meeting Kevin at the front desk/concierge who has a big smile and personality. Most of the time the staff can make or break you, they’re making it for this place! Jachiome (pronounced Jaoquin) at the bar is easy on the eyes and great to talk to! Ladies he’s single haha Small private beach was heavenly and no need to fight for a cabana! There are 3 down there. There’s also kayaks, paddle boards and these little floaters you can hang out in. They keep the beach clean. Only negatives was the toilet would run constantly so we flushed it taking the back cover off lol The bathroom floor was always wet too but not sure where the water was coming from, it wasn’t the toilet. The loud kitchen banging in the morning and the food was mediocre. For us, these are small things because nothing is perfect. We had a great time and thank you again to the staff!

We loved visiting Calabash Cove. It's in a more busy area of the island, but once you turn off the highway, it's like you're on your own little island. The beach was perfect, the pool view was amazing, and the food was great. Get a spa treatment while you're there- the spa sampler was beyond worth every penny.

Reply:: I just wanted to reply back to the comment from the resort. I’m not sure what you mean by us having the do not disturb sign up for long periods of time because that’s absolutely untrue. We received service every single day that we were there, they came in cleaned the room every single day & restocked the refrigerator. But that doesn’t have anything to do with the AC leaking in the room or the tiles falling off in the pool, but I’m glad to hear that y’all have fixed the problem since we stayed two weeks ago We receive five star service absolutely no complaints. Everybody was so kind and welcoming. We would most definitely stay here again. The food and drinks daily was delicious. We had the all exclusive and stayed in the cottage with private pool & outdoor shower , that was definitely a huge bonus and very much recommend recommended everyone was exceptional. Sophia and Teddy just happened to stand out the most, and we love them!! The only thing I would suggest is there should definitely be a few upgrades made. We stayed in cottage three which is directly aligned with the gazebo so there’s absolutely no privacy if they’re having a private dinner or someone’s out there taking pictures or having a massage, that happened three of the times we were there so that was a little uncomfortable and then the small blue tiles inside the pool were falling off, also the AC in the room leaked pretty much the whole time we were there.

Tried my hardest to have a positive outlook on my honeymoon, but there's only so much one can take. We paid $15,000 USD for a 10-night all-inclusive stay. At that price point, we weren’t expecting true 5-star luxury, but we certainly weren’t expecting the worst vacation of our lives. This resort doesn’t even feel like 4 stars. The furniture was dated and stained with who-knows-what, and there were ants crawling everywhere, on the bar counter, sofas, walls, balcony, absolutely everywhere. On night two, a live cockroach waltzed into our living room. We called the concierge, and someone came to tell us the room would be sprayed again the next day, which they likely did while we were out. Night four is when things really went south. As we were about to sleep, I heard rustling by the bedside table. I checked a sealed bag of plantain chips sitting there and found an uneven opening near the top, clear signs of a rodent trying to get in. Horrified, we called the concierge again. Two staff members showed up quickly, searched the room thoroughly (even moving the bed), and eventually caught something. I regret asking to see it, what I saw will haunt me forever. After that, there was no way I could sleep in that room, so they moved us to a different cabin. That room's AC didn’t cool properly despite being set to 16°C, but honestly, I was too scared to sleep anyway. There’s very little to do at this resort beyond lounging by the pool or beach. No offense to the other vacationers, but most were retirement-age, which made it feel like we were at a nursing home. Maybe that’s why the food was so bland. The resort also has a baffling rule that men can’t wear open-toed shoes to dinner. My husband had a painful blister and couldn’t wear closed shoes, so we ended up ordering room service, which had a very limited menu. That meant repeating the same few meals over and over. To top it off, the dinner hostess on our third night was incredibly rude, unnecessarily dismissive and haughty. It was jarring because everyone else had been polite up to that point. There was no one else at dinner that night, so she wasn’t stressed. For an all-inclusive, this place gives you a room and meals, nothing more. No recommendations, no activity planning, not even pamphlets at the concierge desk. We had to figure out everything ourselves. The only included snacks were two bags of plain plantain chips, which were supposed to be replenished daily, but that didn’t always happen unless you asked. We could’ve gotten the same (if not better) quality of vacation for half the price somewhere else. I’d give the amenities 2 stars, and the service 2.5, maybe 3 if not for that dinner hostess. No luggage stands either, we had to keep our suitcases on the floor the entire stay. Which, after ratatouille and Mr. Cockroach, made me feel even more on edge. I’m trying not to let it ruin my memories of our honeymoon, because that’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing. We’ll take more trips in the future, but never again to this resort. I probably need therapy to unpack this experience. In short: worst vacation of my life. This wasn’t a country-specific issue either; after four nights we switched to another resort nearby, and the difference was night and day. That resort actually was 5 stars. The staff at this place, while mostly kind and responsive, weren’t enough to overcome everything else: the pest issues, the dull food, the lack of things to do, the uncomfortable rooms, and the steep price tag. I don’t deal with pests at home and certainly don’t expect to meet them on vacation. And this isn’t coming from an inexperienced traveler, we typically pay for comfort and quality, and we expect that to be delivered. This trip scarred me so badly that we’re considering taking a break from international travel entirely. Home vacations are sounding a lot more appealing right now.

We spent a week here early March 2025. A wonderful resort - beautiful tropical setting, lush landscaping, attractive rooms, nice beach, - and above all - Rey quiet and peaceful. Our room was a “swim out room” with direct access to the infinity pool from our room. Had all meals at the hotel - excellent food and an ever changing choice. Service was a bit slow but all staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist. Beach is small but not at all crowded - plenty of seating for everybody - no need to get up at six on the morning to reserve a lounge chair. Music every night at dinner time - some singers/instrumentalists were quit good. A happy hour one evening for guests to intermingle. Overall a top notch resort -small but well worth it. Only issue is the ride by car to and from the airport - a two hour drive over nasty roads! Next trip, we would try the helicopter or the ferry
