Flights: You can fly to The Bahamas directly from London Heathrow.

Passport/visa requirements: Your passport should be valid for a minimum period of 6 months after the date you plan to leave the Bahamas. You won’t need a visa if your trip is less than 30 days. If flying via America you will need an ESTA.

Packing essentials: The Bahamas enjoys year-round warm weather, so it’s advisable to pack lightweight summer wear, as well as sun cream, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat. It is also worth taking insect repellent, medications, toiletries, a basic first aid kit, a light rain jacket for any tropical showers and a jumper or jacket for cool evenings.

The Queen’s Staircase, which is named in honour of Queen Victoria and leads to Fort Fincastle. History buffs should also seek out Government House, the official seat of the Governor General of The Bahamas. Nassau & Paradise Island is also a stunning place to tee off in the sun, with Royal Blue Golf Course and Ocean Club Golf Course perfect for novices and pros alike, offering scenic tropical backdrops to the lush fairways and greens.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous during your holiday in the Bahamas, you won’t be able to resist donning scuba diving gear or a snorkel and mask to explore the colourful coral reefs that surround Nassau & Paradise Island.

Rose Island Reef and Goulding Cay Reef are great spots for families, being easier to visit and offering shallow water. Alternatively, Exuma Cay Land and Sea Park features blue holes, drop offs and fresh water springs, but takes a bit more effort to reach.

Also a little further away from Nassau and Paradise Island, is the 225-kilometer-long Andros Barrier Reef, the world’s third largest coral reef. This thriving aquatic habitat is home to countless marine creatures, such as starfish, seahorses, clownfish and turtles.

The reef also includes a 6,000ft abyss, known as the ‘Tongue of the Ocean’, which is a bustling underwater metropolis where you'll find sharks and stingrays.


Weather in Nassau & Paradise Island, the Bahamas

The Bahamas enjoy a subtropical climate, with temperatures averaging between the mid-twenties to low thirties. The tourist high season lasts from December to February, when the weather is drier.

Holidays to The Bahamas tend to drop in price around September and November time when rain is more prevalent. If you’re planning to travel at this time, it’s also worth keeping an eye on the hurricane situation.
