The place was very clean, with an older-style lobby that still felt welcoming. I didn’t use the parking, but valet seemed a bit overpriced to me, starting at $75. My only interactions with the staff were during check-in and check-out, and both times they were pleasant. They also provided complimentary drinks, which was a nice touch. The rooms were modern, comfortable, and everything worked well, including the water. The location made it easy to get to spots like Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, and Oracle Park. Overall, I may consider staying here again.

If you are looking for an elegant stay for a reasonable price right off of Union Square, this is the place. The hotel has been beautifully renovated with amazing attention to detail. The staff is professional, attentive and friendly. The room was nicely appointed with a comfortable bed and plush towels. The bar has an excellent wine and cocktail selection. Our experience in the Starlite Room was romantic and special. Be sure to talk to Leif, their seasoned concierge, for ideas around the city. I will definitely return for a stay. I highly recommend!

Great hotel, as grand as its name suggests. We stayed here as part of an 18-stop, and this was one of the biggest places in which we stayed. The standard room we were initially given was a little small for a family with a baby stroller, so we asked if they could switch us. We weren't expecting much - just an extra couple of square feet so we could squeeze the stroller between the bed and walls. But what we were given was incredible - a wheelchair-accessible room that was twice the size of the standard room. The hotel was perfectly located to visit Union Square (a main stop for the open top bus tours), ride the cable car/tram, or visit Chinatown.

We loved our 2 night stay here for the beginning of our honeymoon. They upgraded us to a suite and it was gorgeous! The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom was an old fashioned dream. The water filling stations in the hallway were great. The location was superb! Staff was excellent, especially Sebastian the bellman!!!! The decor is beautiful! The floral decorations they are currently using for the summer promotion is amazing! The nightclub scene is sizzling with fantastic rooftop views. The piano bar is stunning. Thanks for a memorable experience ❣️✨

Normally, I would give this hotel a solid 4 stars. However, an incident happened tonight (while I was staying here) that made the experience an unnegotiable one star. At around 8:05 PM, the alarm blared at high volume warning all residents to evacuate the building. I speed packed my luggage (which included sensitive business information) and ran down four flights of stairs with other panicked residents while carrying my luggage. The alarm stayed on for 15 minutes, with myself and other residents standing on the second floor. Once the alarms stopped, I went back into my room. I received no notification, no information as to the cause of the alarm. Frustrated, I called the front desk to ask for an explanation. The first worker told me that hotel staff was still investigating the cause of the alarm, and mentioned the hotel manager would call me. When the hotel manager called, I asked him if there was a cause, and he mentioned that there was "no mistake" and never apologized. Immediately after I hung up, the alarms started blaring AGAIN, at half volume. It's important to note that the volume was MILD compared to the intensity of the first alarm. This continued for ~40 seconds before stopping. Finally, the hotel intercom came on, and a male voice basically stated curtly that this incident was "due to the fire department testing emergency alarms". The tone sounded misleading, and the reasoning makes no sense -- shouldn't the hotel be notifying guests via email or paper communication before these tests happen? Regardless, what was a good experience was ruined by this single event. I'm disappointed with the hotel's lack of communication, responsibility, and understanding. EDIT: Thank you Sebastien for responding to my review. That makes me feel slightly better, but I won't stay at this hotel for a while.
