We have stayed with the family at Avra Imperial in May/June. It's a brand new facility: very nice building. Super clean: both communal areas and rooms were immaculate. Big swimming pools. The main pool with a bar at the center. Overall good service: excellent concierge advices and also the luggage handlers were super helpful. Front Desk could improve the sense of urgency. The are 3 restaurants: 1 Mediterranean 1 Italian and 1 Asian a la carte plus normal buffet for full board. Full boards are allowed to free 3 meals per week a la carte. Overall food was good with a combo of traditional and continental. However lunch seemed much lighter Good spa facilities as well: kids are allowed in the internal pool 10 to 12. We didn't like the sea side: Kolimbari doesn't offer the best beach in Crete. However inside the Hotel you can rent cars from a super nice gentleman and drive to different beaches. We drove to Elafonisi, Falassarna, Platnias and Agia Marina with Falassarna being the best at 35 min drive.

Exceptional experience at Avra Imperial Hotel! Our stay at Avra Imperial Hotel was nothing short of perfect. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with genuine smiles and outstanding hospitality. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and taken care of – always helpful, kind, and attentive. The rooms were spacious, modern, and spotlessly clean. Everything was designed with comfort and elegance in mind, and we felt relaxed and pampered throughout our stay. The food was simply fantastic. There was a wide selection at every meal, with fresh, high-quality ingredients and plenty of variety to suit all tastes. The chefs were happy to accommodate special requests, showing true care and flexibility. One of the absolute highlights was the breathtaking surroundings. The hotel offers stunning views that leave a lasting impression – whether you’re relaxing by the pool or enjoying a quiet moment on the balcony, the scenery is unforgettable. We are so grateful for this amazing experience. Thank you to the entire team at Avra Imperial Hotel for making our holiday so special. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a luxurious, peaceful, and truly memorable getaway. We will definitely return!

I genuinely wanted to love this hotel, but several service issues significantly impacted our experience. From the start, although we arrived a few hours early and politely requested that our room be prioritized, we ended up receiving it well after the official check-in time. It was especially frustrating to watch other guests arriving later get their rooms within 30 minutes. The WiFi was another disappointment—great at reception but extremely slow once inside the room, making it nearly unusable. Additionally, there were communication problems: some staff incorrectly informed us that we couldn’t use the bar or have lunch after checkout while waiting for our transfer, only for us to discover the following day from another employee that this wasn’t true. Lastly, when we asked for a three-hour late checkout, the hotel charged a very high fee, despite not compensating for our delayed check-in. Though a few staff members were genuinely helpful, these issues overshadowed our overall stay. Attaching a photo of the beach—one you definitely won’t see in the hotel’s promotional images.

Avra Imperial has nice amenities and beach access but it claims to be a 5 star hotel and unfortunately the service and staff do not meet a 5 star standard. I was most disappointed by the discrepancies between the website, app, and information given by staff about opening/closing times for the spa and restaurants. This is likely due to changes between low season and peak season but it could be easily solved my annotating the seasonal dates/times on their website. I was given limited information upon check-in and found myself calling the front desk several times to ask questions. While there is room for improvements, I overall enjoyed my stay and would’ve given a rating of 3.5 stars if possible.

I want to be fair here. The hotel is on average ok. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The pool is definitely the highlight. That said, the food is terrible. Half board means buffet lunch or dinner, which is repetitive and overall poor quality - this is really saying something given the high quality of fish and produce widely available literally everywhere else in Crete. The service is also pretty shocking, I think because they are significantly understaffed. Location is a mixed bag. Great if you want to fly and flop and require minimal entertainment (and minimal standard of cuisine). Not so great if you are looking for a bit more atmosphere and/or activity. Also, the concierge is useless. In the end it was easier and cheaper to find and book excursions myself using tripadvisor recommendations.
