The staff was very professional, efficient, and helpful. Almost every member of the staff was able to communicate in several languages, especially english and italian. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The high-quality buffet was incredibly rich and able to satisfy different tastes. We appreciated the animation inside the resort, which was very discreet and not too pushy. A special mention to Marika and Francesca from Azemar for their professionalism. A couple of notes for improvement: The pictures shown on the website are four years old, as confirmed by some staff memebers, and do not show that the beach is overcrowded by locals, therefore privacy is limited. Also, in recent weeks Tanzanian government set inflatables for kids right in front of the hotel's beach, forcing customers to swim elsewhere.

All around pretty good hotel. The rooms are nicely designed, spacious and well laid-out. Buffet is great, and it’s nice they put on a show every night. Unfortunately some things could be improved; - chips/cracks in the bathtub - service at the pool is virtually nonexistent - cocktails are expensive and mostly all taste bad - bed is quite firm and hard

Our stay at Gold Zanzibar was nothing short of spectacular. As soon as we arrived we were immediately greeted and made to feel at home. In celebration of our honeymoon we were upgraded to a beautiful villa with private pool and butler service - very comfortable and clean accommodation. The amenities including pool, spa, beach and bars were all fantastic. We were also amazed by the food, with so many options and the quality was remarkable, all very fresh, the best pasta we’ve had outside of Italy, great local cuisine too. But what stood out the most was the absolutely amazing service. Every single member of hotel staff went above and beyond to greet us at every opportunity, make us feel at home, offer us anything we could wish for and just engage in conversation; they seemed genuinely interested in getting to know us. We are fortunate to stay at nice hotels around the world and the staff and service at Gold stand out as the very best we have ever experienced and by a very long way. We enjoyed complimentary sunset cruise on our final night for which we are very grateful. The occasional complimentary food and drink with bills showing ‘zero’ against each item, also a very generous touch. I would not hesitate to recommend Gold to anyone looking for accommodation in Zanzibar - furthermore, I would even encourage people to stay at Gold simply to see how the very best of hotels can and should be. I could not think of a single thing that could have been better or different. Thank you for an incredible experience.

most amazing hotel and beautiful beach. Chef Paul and Chef Warren went out of their way to prepare dairy free foods for my daughter. Our Butler Jackline was so wonderful with my kids. 🌴 A True Golden Paradise — Our 50th Wedding Celebration 🌴 We stayed at Gold Zanzibar Beach House & Spa to celebrate our upcoming Golden Wedding Anniversary, and it was one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives. Everything about this place is pure perfection — a wide white-sand beach, crystal-clear water, and an impeccably maintained resort. The staff are warm, kind, and attentive, always nearby but never intrusive. The food is exceptional, fresh, and full of flavor, and drinks are served wherever you wish — by the pool, on the beach, or right on your villa terrace. When the hotel management learned that we had booked a seaside dinner to celebrate our 50 years together, they surprised us with an unforgettable gift — an upgrade to the best villa in the resort, located right on the oceanfront with a private pool. During dinner, the restaurant team sang and brought us a beautiful anniversary cake, made especially for us. It was an incredibly emotional and joyful moment that we will never forget. We also felt completely safe and cared for, even during the post-election period when there were some concerns in the media. The hotel’s security and professionalism made us feel perfectly protected and relaxed at all times. We have traveled a lot around the world, but nowhere else have we experienced such genuine hospitality, generosity, and warmth. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Lux Marijani Zanzibar – more than a vacation, an experience that stays in the soul The Christmas vacation spent at Lux Marijani Zanzibar was, without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful experiences I have ever had. From the first contact until departure, everything was superlative, built with care, professionalism and a rare human warmth. The resort is impeccable: elegant, refined, extremely well maintained, with an atmosphere that perfectly combines discreet luxury with the authentic spirit of Zanzibar. The rooms are spacious, clean, carefully thought out down to the smallest details, and the common areas transmit tranquility, harmony and good taste. The food deserves a special mention – simply extraordinary. Each meal was an experience in itself: fresh ingredients, refined preparations, authentic tastes and impeccable presentation. The interaction with the chefs was special, full of openness and passion for what they do, and this is felt in every plate. What really makes the difference at Lux Marijani, however, is the team. The staff is exceptional: always smiling, attentive, respectful and genuinely interested in the well-being of the guests. We felt, from the first days, that we were not just tourists, but guests welcomed with an open heart. The staff were all very friendly, helpful, and incredibly attentive. The buffet food was excellent and varied, and we could also order à la carte, with live background music or a show. The beach is wonderful — white, fine sand and very wide. At low tide you can walk several meters, as the water recedes and creates large sandbanks and small natural pools. Even when the tide comes in, you can still swim for several meters while keeping your feet on the ground. The water is crystal clear and extremely warm — sometimes we had to go to the pool just to cool down. The cleanliness was impeccable, both in the rooms and in the outdoor areas. The décor is very beautiful, and the gardens are well maintained. The pool has a good size, very pleasant water, and excellent service. The only downsides were a few small power outages, which were resolved quickly, and the fact that there is no medical or nursing service on-site. I had to call a doctor — he arrived quickly, but I had to pay. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and would return without any hesitation.

So what did I think about the LUX resort? Gorgeous! A beautiful little resort with just 84 rooms so not crowded at all. Great customer service for sure. HOWEVER! Very disappointed because everything is charged in Dollars and the prices are way too high - so high it didn’t make sense. In addition to a mandatory travel insurance coverage of $22, these are some of their fees: - Room service $15 (it’s 500/- in Mombasa {$4}) - Small plate of Caesar salad with shrimp $22 - Hotel Taxi ride from airport to resort $80 each way! - Private taxi - $40 one way - Beach boys - $100 to walk you into the ocean 😳 - 1hr massage $110 Ridiculous! I’m not in America?! Even in America, prices are not that high! WTH!! 😡 In addition, they charge a $5 per day surcharge for city administration 😳. The food was nothing to write home about. I craved authentic Swahili dishes but the one night they had it, it was tasteless AND they didn’t have pilau or biriani 🤦🏽‍♀️. Nonetheless, I needed to get out of Kenya and visit the closest country (because I’m a kaguoya), and Zanzibar was it. Lesson learned: I love my country, Kenya Word of advice: Go to Mombasa, Kenya instead

This was our second stay at a LUX hotel, after staying at LUX Belle Mare, which we absolutely loved. Also this time, we were very happy with our choice. LUX Marijani is located at a beautiful beach that is perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The hotel is very clean and the staff is incredibly friendly. We are very picky when it comes to hygiene and cleanliness, but at LUX Marijani we felt super comfortable the entire time. The rooms are cleaned thoroughly twice a day, the maids really do a fantastic job. The food was great as well, we especially enjoyed the omelet and crepes station at breakfast and the changing menu at the main restaurant. The BBQ at the beach was always a highlight, as well as the pasta station. Desserts were also very nice and beautifully decorated. We also appreciated the little sweet treats that were brought to our room daily or the watermelon that was served at the beach. It’s the little extras that make us really love the LUX hotels. Every night, there is some sort of entertainment, dancers, singers or acrobats, which was great, since there is not much around the hotel. The hotel garden, pool and beach area are beautiful and very well maintained. We especially want to thank Murshid, Ibrahim, Aloyce, David and Mustapha for doing such a great job and for making us feel very welcomed. We are definitely returning to LUX Marijani.

A lovely hotel. Beautiful place. Would give it a 4 star as we had been promised a few things upon check-in by a sweet talking receptionist. However we never got it. The staff were very welcoming, but a bit biased. The rooms were very well kept. The pool and beach are were also excellent. The food was however dissaoponting,especially the vegetarian section. There was eggplant dishes in all the three courses everyday, which was monotonous. However the chefs were very good especially chef Desi who went out of his way to serve us good food. Apart from the reception and food, we had a wonderful stay and would recommend it to a friend.

Highly recommend this place. We stayed there for lunch and a couple drinks - everything was excellent. The personnel is very kind and willing to help with everything; I should especially notice our waiter Juma - he was very attentive and helpful. The cuisine was very interesting and exotic, but great! I wish we stayed here for several days, since the view is absolutely amazing.

We stayed at Island Pongwe Lodge for only two days, but we truly wish we could have stayed much longer. Our room was absolutely beautiful, with a stunning view of the ocean that made every moment feel magical. The entire place is peaceful, serene, and even more breathtaking in person than any picture could ever capture. The staff were amazing throughout our stay—always happy to help, always warm, and always ready to answer any questions we had. A special thank you to Rafael and Michela, who were super helpful via email even before our stay and made everything feel smooth and welcoming from the very beginning. They continued to be fantastic in person, making our experience feel even more personal and memorable. We visited for my birthday, and they organised the most romantic meal for us. It was far beyond anything I expected and made the celebration incredibly special. The food during our stay was consistently delicious, and I also really loved that they support local businesses by using locally made soaps and products—such a thoughtful touch that reflects the heart of the lodge. Another lovely surprise was the presence of the island’s dog and cats. They were so cute, friendly, and calm—such a pleasant and heartwarming addition that made the island feel even more special and homely. Island Pongwe Lodge is a place that stays with you, and we can’t wait for the day we get to return. Highly recommended.

The setting is absolutely breathtaking – located on its own private island with perfect views in every direction, it feels like a hidden paradise. The food was incredible, with every dish beautifully prepared and bursting with flavor – truly world-class. What made the experience even more special was the service. Juma, our waiter, was exceptional. He was attentive, helpful, and genuinely friendly, making us feel welcome and taken care of throughout the evening. His professionalism and warmth added a personal touch that elevated the whole experience. This is not just a meal, but an experience I’ll remember forever. Amazing Experience – Our First Time Trying Sea Urchin! We were passing by the area around 10:30 a.m., and since the restaurant usually opens at 12:00, I reached out to the hotel the day before to ask about visiting earlier. They were incredibly kind and said they would bring in fresh sea urchins especially for us — and even open the restaurant just for our visit. That gesture alone already made our day! The staff was very welcoming and polite, and the sea urchins were perfectly fresh. It was our first time ever trying them, and it became an unforgettable experience. A huge thank you to the hotel management for understanding our situation and being so thoughtful. Along with the sea urchins, they also served us lime and gin — and if you’re as new to sea urchin as we were, here’s a tip: you can pour a little gin inside the urchin and enjoy it as a sauce. Such a wonderful and memorable moment — highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a truly special experience! 🌊✨
