Things to do in Halkidiki


Offering divine weather and long stretches of pristine sands, Halkidiki is a paradise for sun- worshippers and beach lovers alike. However, this sublime destination is has much more going for it, with plenty to enjoy in the way of activities, scenery, culture and cuisine.

Indeed, visitors will find leisure opportunities in abundance, with hiking and mountain biking trails through the region’s forests. A host of water sports, including windsurfing, kitesurfing, scuba diving and water skiing can also be enjoyed on the beaches of Kassandra and Sithonia.

If exploring is more your thing, why not head to Petralona Cave to discover the fascinating fossils and rock formations? There’s also a museum on site.

Halkidiki also has a rich history, with a host of archaeological sites to explore, including Ancient Olynthos and Stageira, the birthplace of the philosopher Aristotle.

Those with a love of the arts are again well catered for, with a number of special events taking place throughout the year. These include the Sani Festival and the Kassandra Festival, which feature a host of music, performances and exhibitions.

Foodies will also find plenty on the menu in Halkidiki, with a feast of restaurants and bars serving up local and international treats, as well as a variety of refreshing beverages.

Weather in Halkidiki


Halkidiki is a destination for all seasons, with the best time to visit depending on your holiday plans.

If you seek sunshine and spectacular weather, you’re in luck as Halkidiki provides this by the bucketload for most of the year.

For those who like their holidays hot, the best time to head to Halkidiki is in the summer with temperatures between June and August averaging from the mid to high 20s. This time of year also sees the most sunshine, with 12 to 13 hours a day.

Spring is also a favourable time to visit with May seeing temperatures averaging 19°C and around 11 hours of sunshine. Autumn is similar, with averages temperatures ranging from 23°C in September to 14°C in November and between 9 and 7 hours of sunshine. The chances of a shower, however, are greater during these seasons.

As expected, winter is the coldest time to visit Halkidiki, with temperatures between December and February averaging between 11°C and 9°C, and a higher chance of rain, as well as the odd drop of snow. However, with the weather still warmer than parts of the UK, this time of year provides a great opportunity to discover Halkidiki’s wonderful heritage and explore its many historical site.
