Banje Beach is a family-friendly sandy expanse a short walk from the Old Town. There’s plenty of action on the waves here including wakeboarding, water-skiing, parasailing, kayaking and banana boat rides. You’ll also discover an excellent restaurant which transforms into a lively nightclub after dark.
Lapad is a safe and enclosed sandy beach which is close to many popular hotels. There are plenty of activities and attractions here including a waterslide, communal trampoline, fairground games and a host of bars and restaurants.
A pleasant option for couples and families is to take the short taxi boat ride over to the island of Lokrum where you’ll find a host of secluded beaches and hidden coves.
Šulici is a quaint and quiet half-moon beach below Dubrovnik's landmark fortress of Lovrijenac. This is a delightful hideaway from the hustle and bustle on some of the livelier beaches.
Sveti Jakov is a quiet and peaceful pebble beach not far from Dubrovnik which is renowned for its magnificent sunsets. This is a lovely romantic option for couples.

There are several annual festivals and celebrations in the Dubrovnik Riviera. Here are a few of the most popular ones.
This is one of the biggest events in Dubrovnik's calendar to mark the anniversary of the martyrdom of St. Blaise. The event in February commences with the release of doves in front of St Blaise’s Church by the Bishop of Dubrovnik. A host of activities are staged including a procession along Stradun, concerts, exhibitions, workshops and cultural celebrations.
This takes place for several days before Ash Wednesday when masked and costumed groups parade through the streets. There's a true carnival atmosphere with plenty of singing, dancing, wine and food.
A huge range of performances are staged in venues around the city, from ballet to choral singing. The main event is the traditional production of Hamlet in Fort Lovrijenac.
The gastronomic delights of the Dubrovnik Riviera are heavily influenced by Montenegrin, Bosnian and Italian cuisines.
Seafood is a big favourite and there's no shortage of a fresh supply from the Adriatic waters. Popular dishes are crni rižot, which is squid ink risotto, and mušule na buzaru, mussels cooked in white wine.
Zelena menestra is a traditional green stew which is made with meat, potatoes and cabbage. This is a true classic in Dubrovnik and there's written evidence of it being prepared as far back as 1480.
Rozata is a delicious dessert which has been prepared in Dubrovnik since the Middle Ages. It is a type of custard pudding made with eggs, milk, sugar and a local rose liqueur called Rozalin. After baking in ramekins the dessert is covered in a sweet caramel topping.
There are many excellent restaurants in Dubrovnik, but among those of note are Orsan which overlooks the marina in the Old Town, Taverna Otto at Gruž port and Restaurant 360°, one of the city's most fashionable dining places.
