A Wonderful Family Vacation with Exceptional Staff
We took our family to Barceló Allegro Playacar for the first time this past December and were extremely pleased with our stay. The staff was consistently happy, friendly, and attentive, going out of their way to make our vacation special—especially for our 2-year-old grandson.
We’ve stayed at other Barceló resorts before, but this was our first visit here and it truly stood out. The food was perfect for a large group, with great buffet variety and enjoyable restaurants—especially the Italian restaurant. We loved the beach activities, including catamarans, corn hole, and ladder ball.
Our rooms were clean, comfortable, and conveniently located near both the pool and the beach. While smaller than other Barceló resorts we’ve stayed at, the excellent AC and cleanliness more than made up for it.
A special thank you to Alejandro Mis, who served us at lunch daily and always greeted us with a smile (and ice cream!), and to Gerson Arco for being so kind to our family in the evenings. Housekeeping was also outstanding.
We made wonderful family memories and truly appreciate the resort and its amazing staff for such a memorable family vacation. We hope to return again!

Our 3rd visit in 3 years, and would definitely return again. Extremely nice smaller resort. Great costumer service. We enjoy their food more than the larger resorts, it is more tasty/flavorful. After a few days the bartenders know our drink preferences, and are super friendly, as are the entire service staff. Very clean rooms and well kept grounds. Very relaxing. Entertainment staff is extremely friendly and tries to involve daily participation. Good wifi throughout.

Nice resort for a stay with family and friends. Food is quite good, although a wider variety would be much appreciated. The staff is very friendly and always helpful. The beach is quite big, with lots of space for the family, although a little bit more of shade would be great. There’s a kids club well equipped for the little ones, my kid enjoyed it a lot
The entertainment/animation staff were also very friendly and had several activities to keep the guests entertained (bingo, trivia, contests, among others). Annet and Angel were great at this area!

The Good: Exceptional Staff
The staff at Hotel Allegro truly made our stay memorable. From check-in to departure, every team member we encountered was incredibly friendly, warm, and genuinely hospitable. Their attentiveness and positive attitude stood out, and it’s clear the hotel invests in creating a welcoming culture. This was by far the highlight of our experience.
The Disappointing: Service Animal Policy
Unfortunately, we encountered a significant issue with the hotel’s service animal policy. Despite having a legitimate service animal and the property having adequate space to accommodate dogs, the hotel refused entry. This was not only disappointing but also deeply distressing for our family. Hotels should be aware of and compliant with service animal regulations, and this experience fell well short of expectations.
The Concerning: Food Quality & Health
While the food was acceptable in taste, we had serious concerns about quality and variety. Five members of my family experienced food poisoning during the first few days of our stay, which significantly impacted our vacation. Additionally, the menu was heavily dominated by fried and high-fat options with limited healthy alternatives. For guests with dietary preferences or restrictions, this could be challenging.
Overall Verdict: The wonderful staff couldn’t fully compensate for the service animal refusal and food safety issues we experienced. While I appreciate the hospitality and friendliness of the team, the other concerns—particularly the health-related issues; make it difficult to recommend this property without reservation.
I hope management addresses these areas for future guests.

Checkin took waaay too long for a 30 people group, 40 minutes. Getting into the room took 1,5 hour because the door was not working. No other room given to solve the problem quickly. Eventually security needed to repair the door. It's not a pleasant way to start your stay. You need a lot of patience and you better speak some Spanish. Otherwise it is a nice place..

We just returned from an amazing week at this beautiful resort. We met so many wonderful people, but the staff truly stood out. Arbey and the rest of the events team, including JD, Diego, and Mili, were exceptional. Arbey went above and beyond, making our vacation feel truly special and memorable. The events team kept us engaged and entertained by the pool and beach, ensuring each day was a blast. The resort was the perfect size, never feeling crowded. The food was delicious, and we always found something tasty to enjoy. The oriental hibachi restaurant was our favourite à la cart dinner option, which was very entertaining and delicious.

We stayed with the premium package. The poolside service at the premium pool was not great this year compared to 4 years ago when Henri waited on us. We were only waited on poolside a couple times, until we left the premium pool and went to the main pool with the swim up bar and went were waited on consistently by a nice lady named Dana.
The food on the resort is very mid, nothing spectacular. Having a buffet is nice, the food at the flat top in the back of the buffet is very good. We had the Italian restaurant experience and it was only okay. If you want great Mexican food, go across the street to iguanas. Amazing service, very good tacos, quesadillas, fajitas, etc.
We celebrated a birthday here this week and Arbey went above and beyond to make it a special night for our birthday girl and even went and bought a cake with his own time and money. We remember Arbey from our first time here, and he is such a bright person and friendly face. We can’t wait to see him again. He is also a very great entertainer and has amazing energy.
The over all stay is amazing. The beach is beautiful. The rooms are clean and neat and every employee I encountered is friendly and happy.

We recently stayed at the resort and overall had a nice, family-friendly experience with a few areas that could be improved to make it even better.
One of the biggest highlights of our trip was the entertainment, especially Diego. He truly made the stay memorable. Diego brought great energy every day, made everyone feel included, and created a fun atmosphere for both kids and adults. His activities were engaging and family-friendly, and you could tell he genuinely cared about guests having a good time. He was a major part of why our trip felt enjoyable and welcoming.
The entertainment overall was good, though we would have loved a bit more upbeat party-style music mixed in. There was a lot of relaxing reggae, which was nice at times, but adding more variety and higher-energy music could enhance the atmosphere, especially in the evenings.
The pool area was fun, and we appreciated having slides, but it would be great if there were options for adults as well. We found ourselves using the kids’ slide daily because it was the only real option, and it ended up being a lot of fun. Having a designated adult slide would make the experience even better. One thing we did miss was poolside food service — being able to grab something quick without leaving the pool area would be a big improvement.
Food was decent overall, but there is room for growth. The buffet was okay, though the variety felt a bit limited after a few days. Since the other restaurants require reservations, it wasn’t always easy to switch things up. Also, better translation on the buffet signs and menus would be very helpful so guests know exactly what they’re choosing. Adding temperature indicators for the different salsas (mild, medium, hot) would also be a great touch. And for those of us who love it, having salsa and guacamole available more consistently would be a big plus.
A few room-related details stood out as well. The shower had a half-glass panel, which allowed water to spill out onto the bathroom floor while showering. A fuller enclosure would help prevent that. We also noticed there was no room service available, which would have been convenient, especially for families or late evenings.
Overall, we had a positive stay and made some great memories. The staff, especially Diego, really helped make the experience special and welcoming for families. With a few small improvements in food variety, signage, poolside service, and music variety, this resort could easily move from good to great.

We had the most amazing stay with a group of 14 at Allegro Cozumel. We were incredibly impressed with the cleanliness of the resort. There was always somebody sweeping something, washing something, cleaning the pool or cleaning up the beach. We felt so safe there and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Like many all inclusives the buffet food got a little repetitive after a few days but we had an incredible meals at the Oriental and Italian restaurants. Daily entertainment was fun. Diego and JD were amazing!! so friendly and showed great interest in getting to know guests and make sure that everyone was having a great week!
Outside of the resort, Cozumel was amazing. Although we had a bit of a bump at Señor frogs on a day out when one of our group got food poisoning from a drink. Transportation was amazing, Island Jeep tour was amazing and they picked us up right at Allegro.

We came down to stay at Allegro Resort for the first time, with our kids and our parents. We've been here for 9 days so far and wow - we LOVE IT!! We were nervous after booking our trip because since booking have seen lots of negative reviews - which is why I am sharing this now.
Let's start with the food. This is honestly the BEST food we've had at any all inclusive we've been at before. Our kids are 7 and 8, and they were very happy with the food, and us adults were pleased as well. We went to the Oriental a-la-carte twice, and it was incredible as well! I'm not sure why people are so negative about the food here - I'm assuming they're mostly extremely picky eaters or unhappy with most dining experiences in general. Don't listen to the bad reviews when it comes to the food.
The beach - WOW!!!!!! It feels like paradise. Every time I enter the water I feel extreme gratefulness and I'm in awe of how clear the water is. The sand is beautiful, and the ocean floor when entering the water is sandy - we never had to use our water shoes. You could see so clearly - you never had to worry about stepping on anything dangerous etc. Usually when we go to a resort we only spend a day or two at the beach - but this trip we find ourselves at the beach every single day. The beach was awesome for snorkelling as well. My kids never got bored there. Itzel was the server who walked the beach everyday that we were here and she is the best!! She made sure everyone had a drink at all times!
Speaking of the Staff - everyone has been incredible. Very kind, personable, and some even remembered our names! From the bartenders to the servers, groundsmen, housekeepers, cooks, entertainers, you name it - all of the staff here are 10/10.
The only negative I'd say about the resort is that the rooms are quite small, and there is a lack of dressers / shelves to unpack and keep things organized. However, it did not ruin our vacation at all. We did not upgrade our room at all - I am not sure if the upgraded rooms have dressers etc to rectify that minor problem.
We would absolutely stay here again. What a perfect trip we've had. ALSO special mention - Go to Alberto's (3 min away) for the best night ever!! 🤣🤣 Bring your Advil and water bottle for the following day lol.

Absolutely loved having a family vacation at this resort! Staff was incredible. Our waiters, Alfredo Gil and Alberto Delfin, were particularly exceptional to accommodating our needs. The ladies instructing morning stretch class on the beach were also wonderful. Thoroughly enjoyed the nightly live music at the piano in the lobby.
A few things to know before hand:
•The resort offers high chairs at the restaurants for babies as well as cribs to use during your stay *if they are available*
•Reservations are required for dinner at the restaurants (buffet requires no reservations)
•There are several activities throughout the day
•There are nightly shows starting around 9pm that can be quite loud if you are an early to bed person

This is our second time here. My family and I saw many improvements in service, cleanliness, and variety of food. The food was delicious everywhere. Our favorite was the buffet. I asked the staff to arrange a little surprise for my wife and daughter for their birthdays, and they exceeded my expectations. Special thanks to "Captain Mario," Alfredo, Luis, and others. We were very happy there and felt their warm Mexican welcome every morning! We arrived at 8:30 AM and were supposed to check in at 4 PM. The staff was very nice to us, letting us check in pretty much right away. I kindly asked them to provide at least one room on the first floor for my mother, who has a walking disability, and they managed to find both rooms for us. There was no extra charge for early check-in or room choice. Highly appreciated. Everything deserves 5 stars. The only thing I didn't like was that the beach is rather small, but I didn't see how they could improve it; the location allowed them only so much, but we still liked it. The jet ski rental guys were fixing their rigs almost every day, causing a smell of gas and exhaust.

We enjoyed a very pleasant stay at the Costa Cancún hotel during the Christmas holidays of 2025. The hotel offered many activities for adults, the restaurant served excellent food, the bars prepared great cocktails, and all the staff were extremely kind and friendly. We did not encounter a single unpleasant employee, which feels almost like a miracle these days.
The only slight disappointment was the beach, or rather the access to the sea. Swimming is only possible within a buoy-marked area, which is quite small and, above all, very shallow — really very shallow. Unfortunately, it is not ideal for swimming, and even the pool was deeper. We understand that a hotel located close to the marina cannot fully influence this, but we believe this information may help others when choosing their holiday.

Carlo was absolutely incredible during our stay and made a huge difference for my mother-in-law and her friends. My mother-in-law is Muslim and wasn’t comfortable eating at the buffet due to religious dietary restrictions (pork being present), and Carlo handled everything with so much kindness, respect, and genuine care.
He went above and beyond by speaking with the kitchen and arranging fresh seafood meals for her, which made her feel comfortable, welcomed, and looked after every day. It was such a thoughtful and special experience, and it honestly took a lot of stress away from our trip.
Thank you so much, Carlo, for making this resort experience so smooth and enjoyable for them. People with religious restrictions often struggle while traveling, and your support meant everything. Highly recommend and truly appreciate you! 🙏✨

This was my first time at Barcelo Maya Beach and my wife and I had an amazing week. The resort is massive but very well laid out and easy to navigate. The beach is beautiful, very well manicured and plenty of palm trees for shade. The water is a little rocky until about 20-30 feet out and then it’s smooth white sand, goes from about waist deep to shoulder deep. Nice clean pools, they look almost brand new. Room was tidy and minibar restocked daily. The dining is excellent, we particularly enjoyed Tokyo and La Trattoria, and the buffets are pretty good too. Staff are friendly and helpful. We will certainly be returning to Barcelo in the future!

I have been to this property 18 times and for years avoided the Mexico Lindo restaurant. Now I know that I have been missing out! The atmosphere is my favorite on the entire property, absolutely beautiful! Javier Muñoz is the manager and he has prepared his staff with excellence! Linsey the hostess was kind, professional, and a true delight. Best Mango margaritas and sueros made by the bartender! And our server Salvador and Miguel were on point with the absolute best service! Recently returned from a 7 day stay at the resort. The entire resort is well maintained and very clean. Staff is friendly but few understand the English language. Used my google translator. Once the resort is figured out , it is very easy to move about. There are many maps of the whole resort around but because it is so large, the map is difficult to read. People with walk Issues may encounter difficulties getting around. The bus going throughout is a lifesaver but still lots of walking.
I would not rate this resort as a 5 Star for a number of reasons. The beach is the worst I’ve ever encountered. The water was beautiful but the ocean floor is uneven and extremely difficult to get in and out. Pools were beautiful.
The buffet food was okay for a day or 2 but the same food each day. They use so much pasta in different forms and I was disappointed to see the pizza crust came from a bag. Eating gluten free was extremely hard.
The Bandit buffet is better than the larger buffet but not open in the evening. Stokers lounge offers a small menu and we found chicken wings here.

Beautiful location, very close to shopping, restaurants, ferries, and right across the street from a beautiful beach. The resort itself isn’t on the best beach for swimming, but the pool is big and the beach is less than a 5 minute walk.
The food at the resort is incredible. Everything we ate at the buffet was delicious, the cafe and the restaurants were also wonderful and included in the price of the all inclusive.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. We traveled from Canada and we did find that the front desk was a bit difficult to reach by phone before we arrived, but it was doable through the Wyndham main number.
The resort was always very clean and well maintained. Our room was spotless when we arrived.
Overall a very good experience, would highly recommend!!!

My room was comfortable and clean, with good amenities. Housekeeping did a great job throughout my stay, and the resort staff were friendly and welcoming. The environment felt peaceful and safe, which made the trip even better.The food was generally good, especially breakfast, which had plenty of options. The pool and beach areas were lovely, and there were enough activities to keep things interesting without feeling overwhelming. I appreciated that everything was easy to access and organized. Despite the small setbacks, the overall vibe, cleanliness, and scenery made this trip memorable. It’s a great option for anyone looking for comfort, relaxation, and quality time away.

I really enjoyed this resort! We stayed in the junior suite and it was a massive room! The service was the best I’ve experienced in awhile. Between the girls working the coffee shop, all the bartenders, housekeeping, the front desk, everyone made our stay amazing! We came for my birthday and they even left a mini cake in my room!! Our favorite were the servers at the restaurants! They made us laugh every night. ALSO, the food was amazing!!!!! Anywhere you go, it’s good food (and that’s coming from a picky American who eats Chicago/midwest food) but the Italian restaurant has AMAZING pasta! The bartenders were all so sweet and work like crazy!!! Each night they have entertainment which I personally thought was fun! We did karaoke, had a rock band show, did a silent party (which was actually fun). I had such an amazing time, always felt safe, and the hotel was extremely clean which was a huge perk for my ocd. Another perk was its right along 5th Ave which was so nice for us wanting to go explore!

Absolutely loved this place! Great location, so you can check out Playa del Carmen easily. The staff is top notch, Jannika is the star of the hotel, we loved her so much! Sebastian at the bar was our favorite bartender. The sushi place was great, so was the steak house, but the Mexican restaurant in the hotel was the best. Housekeeping was outstanding, our room was spotless every day. I can’t say enough good things about this place. To say again, the staff really made this stay special!!

Great location, rooms are big and clean with a private balcony. The staff were amazing, they really made an effort to talk to you and make sure you were happy. The all-inclusive food and drink options were amazing, plenty of choice and good quality. I was originally concerned when booking that the beach was small but they have a lovely pool area and there are public beaches only a short walk away so don't let that put you off.
Great value for money, I'd definitely return to this hotel!

This resort was fun to be at, staff were friendly and helpful. The location on the peach and the various pools were great to swim in. Food was quick and always good. Never a complaint from our group of 6 about the food/drink service at the resort.
The main downside was the maintenance required for the resort and the rooms did not seem top notch. Some older rooms had AC issues, plumbing was less than ideal but always seems to work even at low water pressure.
The cleaning staff always changed the AC temperature, seemed to leave the sliding balcony door unlocked after we locked it, and sometimes did not replace towels or pillows during the cleaning. We had to ask for our pillows to be replaced at 10pm and our travel partners had to request towels, water, and minor maintenance.
The staff was always positive and wanted to provide a good experience, despite knowing that the building quality was not top notch.

I loved everything in my vacation. Room was very clean, I had everything I need and even more, great view from balcony.
All the stuff was very friendly and helpful, really, every single person! Everyone was doing great on their level. For this I would put an extra star)
Nature is beautiful, beach is great and everything on territory was extra clean. Food could be a bit better, sometimes was too salty or tasteless, but in general was very good quality of products and lots of choices.
Was not so happy with my manicure but problem was fixed and I was satisfied with the solution.
Would definitely recommend this hotel and will be happy to come back)

We cannot convey in words our total disappointment…we planned this family vacation for years. We had 5 family milestones we were celebrating:
1. 25 years of marriage
2. A Retirement
3. A College Master’s completion
4. 2 college graduations
We do have some treasured memories that occurred; we made the best out of a bad situation but NONE of our stay met our expectations. We will not be staying at a Hyatt anywhere anytime soon.
1. Upon arriving at the resort, we were overcome by the smell of raw sewage near the front entrance & while entering/exiting our room on a daily basis.
3. Check in, at 12:30 am due to late airline flights, customs & waiting for taxi, we were only provided with 2 of our 3 rooms as 2 of our party were delayed with canceled flights & their names were on the room. We prepaid for 3 rooms for 6 nights but only got 5. We were shorted $3000!!!! with no apologies!!
4. Although we checked in with 3 & 4 people respectively for the 2 rooms, there was only 1 towel in each room! No washcloths, no hand towels, no bath mat. We received towels after calling housekeeping that were seriously frayed, thin & worn. We had to ask for towels every day of our stay.
5. Our room was freezing! 60 degrees! We had to sleep in our clothes because the AC was faulty.
6. There were so many other things wrong, we've filed a complaint. This space doesn't allow all of it. I do have pictures but I'm not going to put them on here.

The resort was older but they were always maintaining the grounds. The rooms were very loud and you could here every noise especially when they were fixing the grounds at 7am. The beach was very clean and always beautiful with free paddle boards and small boats. They even had sting ray that would swim up that they fed. The pool and bars looked nice but the service unfortunately lacked very often. Food has no variety but a edible and they did provide one beach dinner with entertainers that was nice. There were a few servers who really tried hard and went above and beyond but the majority were just really tired, seemed bored, and were waiting to go home. You didn't feel the enjoyed having you there most times. I think if they stepped up the service the resort would be so much more welcoming and a better overall time. Not really premium liquor even when upgrading to club room. Initial room was awful upgraded room was nicer. Room service was OK not always on time. Great views though and if you just enjoy the people you with you'll have a great time.

The beach has way too much algae on the shore of the beach.
There are signs of damage everywhere.
When it rains there are drips inside the halls.
There are some vents that look like they need replacement. One in the spa area.
Some walls are cracked.
Wish they described it as family centered.
I don't like daily centered resorts.

Experience was great all around. All you need is 3 days here. It gets a bit repetitive with the activities. The bell men were funny and gave great service. I highly recommend Luis and Hebert. They were the kindest human beings. Overall, my husband and I had a great time.

So we have a premier contract with this hotel with a lot of benefits. Over the recent months they have began to strip things from our contract that we are “legally” obligated to have. Obviously we are dealing with a foreign country contract so a little more difficult to pursue enforcement. So I think to warn others to stay away from buying in as it is at their convenience not yours.
One of our dining experiences this time at Sutra (private room) was the worst experience ever. Everyone’s food came out overcooked or undercooked and had to be returned. The waiter Santos had an attitude the entire time and never offered to get us a drink. We even had to refill our own water. Furthermore, one guests food didn’t even come out until after everyone was done eating and it was a lobster and overcooked.
On a good note- Ivan and Shadia our butlers were amazing. The premier bar staff, Gerry, tono, Matias, Adan and manolo were amazing as always. Bell boys Carlos and Alfredo were great as well. Gloria the butler boss is always on her game and amazing.
Decent place to go but stays away from buying in- they will promise you the world but deliver nothing after you do.

Good time. Pool bartender Francisco “Pachito” is the man! Bellboy Angel & Jesus took very good care of us. All the waiters provided great service. Most of all, the massage therapists , Anna & especially Daniela were the most amazing therapist, provided diamond level quality experience. The entire spa staff & services are great in general.

The resort was very clean and fun. The staff very attentive to guest. The atmosphere very chill but also a party atmosphere. I was told the resort caters to Hispanic community in the months of June, July and September. Definitely will be coming back during one of those months.
