Grenada

Grenada is a sensational cruise holiday destination which boasts lush tropical landscapes, pristine sandy beaches, an imposing ridge of mountains and crystal-clear waters. It is a volcanic Caribbean country, comprising a main island, surrounded by several smaller islands. It is justifiably known as the ‘Spice Isle’, with nutmeg, clove, turmeric, ginger and cinnamon widely grown there. Grenada is also renowned for its superb chocolate products which are made using the island’s rare and fine varieties of cocoa. The island capital St George’s is home to a charming harbour, imposing Georgian buildings, excellent shops and excellent nightlife. With its awe-inspiring natural attractions, fabulous food, unrivalled hospitality and year-round sunshine, the island is perfect for couples, families and groups of friends craving an unforgettable cruise adventure.

Grenada

The cruise holiday of a lifetime awaits in sun-drenched Grenada, a mesmerising paradise Caribbean country of the Lesser Antilles, located halfway between the Equator and the Tropic of Cancer. Swaying palms, enchanting coral reefs, cascading waterfalls and lush botanical gardens create a picture of beauty and wonder.
You’ll also discover 18th century colonial houses, captivating historical forts, verdant rainforests and spice plantations. Sample the produce at Grenada’s oldest rum distillery on the River Antoine Estate, swim in the natural pools at the Seven Sisters Waterfalls or marvel at the tranquil mangroves, salt ponds and flocks of birds at La Sagesse Nature Centre. The island is blessed with more than 40 jawdropping sandy beaches, including Grand Anse where the immaculate silky sands stretch for around 3km.
The island capital St George’s boasts a horseshoe-shaped harbour, quaint shops with red roof tiles and an imposing yacht marina which is situated on the submerged crater of an ancient volcano. It is also home to an 18th century French fortification, Fort George, The Carenage harbour-side promenade, a bustling open-air market and many gourmet restaurants. You’ll find many incredible diving spots in Grenada including Flamingo Bay, where you can gaze in awe at reefs teeming with marine life and enthralling shipwrecks. The island is also home to the world’s first underwater sculpture park.

Food & Drink

Grenada’s culinary delights are heavily influenced by cuisines from around the globe including Asia and Africa. Seafood, local meats, mangoes, coconut and exotic breadfruit figure prominently in many of the island’s most popular dishes. Oil Down is a hearty one-pot stew you’ll find all across Grenada which is made with breadfruit, salted pork, chicken or fish, coconut milk, various vegetables, dumplings and spices. Turtle Toes is a tasty traditional dish featuring ground up lobster and conch meat which is shaped into balls, fried and placed back in the original lobster shells.

Sweet treats and desserts on the island include fudge produced from locally-produced cocoa, nutmeg-infused ice cream and cocoa balls, which consist of roasted and ground cocoa beans which are made into a paste and mixed with cinnamon, bay leaf and thyme.

Rum punch is a much-loved local tipple where white or dark rum is mixed with refreshing fruit flavours, while hot cocoa tea is a wonderful beverage consumed first thing in the morning.

Best Time

Grenada has a hot and humid tropical climate, with plenty of sunshine all-year-round. A great time to visit is during the peak season, between mid-December and mid-April, when there is minimal rainfall. The shoulder season months of May and November are a good time to spend time in Grenada when the weather is very pleasant and you can avoid the crowds.
The island's hot, humid and rainy season runs from June to December. May is the hottest month, with an average temperature of 27°C, and the coldest month is January at 25°C. The island gets its fair share of rain which falls throughout the year in the form of thunderstorms or short-lived downpours, with November being the wettest month, with an average of 253mm of rain. Sea temperatures are good for swimming throughout the year - they range from 27 °C (81 °F) between December and April to 29 °C in September and October.

Things To See and Do

It’s thrills and adventure all the way in sun-kissed Grenada with a plethora of exciting things to see and do during a cruise holiday on the island. Dive among the turtles, sharks and shipwrecks off the coast, marvel at the aroma in the nutmeg groves in Grand Etang national Park or take to an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) for an adrenaline-pumping drive along the rugged coastline. The island is also home to The Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park, an awe-inspiring spectacle created beneath the waves by sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor, where the giant concrete and steel structures include Christ of the Deep, The Lost Correspondent and The Vicissitudes. You’ll need to snorkel, scuba dive or take to a glass-bottomed boat to view the sculptures.
Other major attractions in Grenada include Concord Falls, Grand Etang Lake, Levera National Park, Grenada National Museum and Grenada Chocolate Company, Factory & Bonbon Shop. Historical landmarks which are well worth a visit include Fort Frederick and Fort George, an impressive 18th century French fortress. Key annual events in Grenada which are well worth seeing include Grenada Chocolate Festival, Grenada Sailing Week and Spicemas, the island’s premier cultural event which is held in August and features colourful pageants, parades, dancing and music. Granada boasts 45 fabulous sandy expanses including the stunning Grand Anse, which is located in a sheltered coastal area in the south west of the island, Morne Rouge near St George, Magazine beach on the southern coast and Paradise Beach between Hillsborough and Tyrrel Bay. Popular activities in Grenada include fishing, sailing, hiking, snorkelling, biking, scuba diving, canoeing, birdwatching, ziplining, fishing and canyoning.
