Inside Cabins

If you’re planning a cruise holiday on a budget, an inside cabin could be the way to go. Despite not having a balcony or window, and offering no natural light, this accommodation type still has its advantages. The fact you can switch the lights off and enjoy complete darkness allows you to sleep easy night or day. You will also find that inside cabins are usually quieter, while being located close to the middle of the ship can mean you’re less likely to feel any movement if sailing in choppy waters. This room option is also typically the cheapest, so if you’re aiming to be out and about enjoying the entertainment, activities and nightlife that awaits on your ship, there’s absolutely no reason not to book an inside cabin. What you save can then be spent on excursions, activities, speciality dining, drinks packages and maybe even an indulgent spa treatment.

Outside Cabins

If you’re seeking a room with a view without too much cost, an outside cabin may suit you down to the ground. Featuring either a porthole or a picture window, you can view the world beyond your living space as well as being able to let in some natural light. That said, however, you won’t be able to open your window, so you won’t be able to enjoy the relaxing sound of the ocean or a blast of fresh sea air. It’s also worth considering that some windows may only offer obstructed views. Similar to inside cabins, outside cabins are ideal if you aren’t planning to spend much time in your room. However, if you can make do without the natural light and enjoy the views from other vantage points on your ship, it might be worth saving some money and choosing an inside cabin.

Balcony Cabins

Fresh sea air, the seductive sound of the waves and captivating ocean vistas can all be enjoyed in a balcony cabin. Your own private outdoor space provides an ideal spot to relax and unwind. If you value regular alone time to recharge your batteries, a balcony cabin is a must, and worth the extra cost. They are also a wonderful choice if you’re travelling as a couple. You can take advantage of room service and enjoy leisurely al fresco breakfasts together and romantic dinners under the stars. If you’re cruising with Virgin Voyages, almost all of their Sea Terrace cabins include a hammock, the perfect spot for soaking up the sun in peace and tranquillity. Certain ships also feature internal balcony cabins looking out across public spaces. These are a good option if you enjoy people watching, but you may find some additional noise at certain times.

Suite Cabins

If you’re craving a taste of the cruise high life, splashing the cash on a suite cabin is the only option. These luxurious rooms offer more space than other accommodation types and often have larger balconies or terraces. Many suites feature seating spaces or separate lounge areas, while more lavish living quarters may include multiple bedrooms, dining spaces, bar areas, games rooms, Jacuzzis, private spa areas and even slides. You’ll also enjoy a variety of benefits, perks and privileges, as well as access to exclusive lounges, bars and restaurants reserved especially for suite guests. Often, you’ll also find a dedicated steward is on hand to ensure you want for nothing during your voyage. With a choice of suite options usually available on every ship, you can pick the living space that suits you best and prepare to sail on the crest of a wave on your cruise holiday of a lifetime.

Guaranteed Cabin

If you’re searching for a sensational deal on a cruise holiday, it pays to opt for a guaranteed cabin, taking advantage of the special offers and cheap prices available. When you book this type of accommodation, whether you select inside, outside, balcony or suite, you will get a room of the level chosen or better. You can’t pick the location and you can’t switch if you don’t like where it is. However, you may get lucky and be upgraded having already paid less than the standard price for the accommodation level you picked. If travelling as a family or with friends and are booking more than one guaranteed cabin, it’s unlikely you’ll be together. It’s also worth making sure you understand the accommodation terms and conditions of the cruise line you’re sailing with and you’re happy with what you may, or may not, get for your money.
