While there’s nothing quite like sitting on a white sand island beach sipping a cocktail and watching a real-life Maldivian sunset, we’ve come up with a few tropical cocktail ideas that might just help get you into that holiday spirit while you wait.
The most popular UK cocktails
We all know that here in the UK, we’re not unfond of a drink or two. We also love a bit of sun and a lovely holiday, with the Maldives ranking up there as one of the most popular destinations for our customers - for honeymoons and all inclusive getaways alike.
With that in mind, we looked at UK search volume and Instagram hashtags to look at some of the most popular cocktails across the country. Using this data we were able to find a seed list of the top tipples in the UK to inspire our Maldives-themed cocktails.
For example, the most searched for cocktail in the UK is the espresso martini, with over 90,000 online searches per month. So, we knew we had to include a caffeinated cocktail in our list of drinks inspired by holidays to the Maldives.
Others, like the piña colada, mai tai, strawberry daiquiri and sex on the beach cocktails, already have a decent amount of holiday vibes in their classic recipes, so we decided to go full Maldivian and make them even more tropical with added ingredients like coconut cream, pineapple and passionfruit.

Tropical cocktail ideas for summer
With the summer months and plenty of heatwaves already upon us, it’s time to start planning get-togethers, parties and barbecues.
Perhaps your Maldives family holiday is booked for later in the year, after the initial summer rush. Or, perhaps your holiday is right around the corner, and you want to get into the tropical island spirit in advance.
Either way, we thought we’d bring the Maldives to you with our easy-to-make DIY cocktail recipes. You don’t need any fancy equipment or even particularly exotic or hard to find ingredients. Grab yourself the key ingredients, a few glasses and plenty of ice, and get your mixologist on.
While it’s probably best to enjoy these on a sunny day outdoors - get some inflatable palm trees and a sand pit to really commit to the theme - our cocktails will bring sunshine to any rainy UK day.
