The island paradise of Bali is often credited as being one of the most beautiful places in the world, with postcard-perfect white beaches, magnificent ancient temples and luscious greenery around every corner. This tiny speck in the Indian Ocean has so much to explore, you’d be forgiven for just seeing your hotel as a base to lay your head when you’re not trekking through jungles. But there’s so much more to Bali accommodation than that.

Many hotels in Bali feature their own stunning spas, with exotic and luxurious treatments and experienced staff ready to pamper guests to their heart’s content. In this blog, we’ll explore some of the best spa treatments that you can try in Bali, as well as some of most fabulous hotel spas on the island.

Balinese Massage

Taking influence from the traditional medicine systems of Southeast Asia, traditional Balinese massage features techniques of acupressure, skin rolling, percussion and essential oils.

Balinese massage is a wonderful choice if you’re looking to benefit from a variety of massage techniques. The key benefit of Balinese massage is the use of deep pressure to stimulate the flow of blood, oxygen and qi around the body.

What is qi?

Spa

Qi, sometimes spelt Chi, is the circulating life force found in living beings. It’s the basis of many Chinese and southeast Asian medicine techniques and philosophies. It literally translates as ‘breath’, ‘air’ or ‘gas’. Figuratively, it translates as ‘energy flow’ or ‘life force’.

The use of scented essential oils are perfect for soothing your mind, say, after a long journey to Bali from the UK. These are used in Balinese massage, and their unique scents linger long after the massage has ended.

Once your massage is over, you’ll feel both physically and emotionally wonderful - your muscles will be relaxed and any knots minimised. You’ll feel refreshed and re-energised. Many spas offer a post-massage place, where you can lay down for a while and reap the benefits of your treatment, whilst experiencing true tranquility.

Balinese massage is practiced at spas all over the world, with therapists from lots of different countries choosing to become experts in this unique treatment. However, for a truly authentic Balinese massage, a trip to the island is a must.
