Atlantis, The Palm is one of the biggest and well-known hotel resorts in the United Arab Emirates. Themed around the myth of Atlantis, it opened in 2008 and has become an icon of the landscape of Dubai.
Here are 10 fun facts about Atlantis, the Palm:
- When the hotel opened in 2008, there was a light show and a fireworks display.
- There were around 100,000 fireworks set off, which was seven times the amount that was used in the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics in the same year.
One of the largest hotels in the world, the hotel has over 1500 rooms.
An episode of The X Factor was partially filmed at The Palm in 2009, with Dannii Minogue choosing her female contestants for the live shows.
The hotel has two underwater suites, called Poseidon and Neptune. The suites have views of ancient ruins of Atlantis and up to 65,000 marine inhabitants.
In the restaurant, Ossiano, you can organise to propose to a loved one. A diver will float to the window nearest to your table with a sign with your message of choice.
In 2015, Atlantis the Palm won a silver medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.
The celebrity chefs of Atlantis, the Palm have an amazing six Michelin stars between them.
To match the large amount of rooms in the hotel, there are over 3000 people employed at Atlantis, the Palm.
Atlantis, the Palm has its very own bakery, which once made a wedding cake that weighed 400kg (which is the same as a cow!)
