This hotel is great - old Grand Hotel Style, the rooftop is fantastic and a lot of venues, restaurants and pools. Absolutely worth the money. The staff is friendly and supporting - hospitality at its best.

Our stay at this hotel fell a long below our expectations. The hotel is lovely as are the staff, but to close the Swimming Pool for 4 days, prioritising revenue from a product launch by a major tobacco company, over the experience of your guests, falls way short of what I would expect from an establishment such as yours. Clearly profit is more important to you than guest satisfaction. The alternatives offered (Use of VIP rooftop "pool" which is in effect a plunge pool in a area with no shade or use of the Spa) were not fit for purpose and just go to reinforce how little you seem to care about your clients, unless of course they are one of the biggest tobacco companies in the world. Informing us of this withdrawal of a major facility, less than 7 days out also felt like it was delayed as late as possible to avoid giving guests the opportunity to make other arrangements. I felt sorry for your junior staff, who had to deal with the irate hotel guests - It would appear you don't really care much about them either? We won't stay at the Santa Catalina or any other Barcelo properties again.

We loved our stay in Santa Catalina. The staff is incredibly kind and always willing to help with everything, and they were specially friendly with our toddler and baby! The outdoor pool with salt water is gorgeous, the restaurants are really good (we dinned in 1890 La bodeguita), the breakfast is one of the best we've ever had in a hotel!! When we visit Las Palmas again, we definitely repeat in Santa Catalina!

We stayed at the Hotel Santa Catalina for 9 nights and at first we were taken by the architecture of the building and its grand surroundings. At the point of check in we were handed a piece of paper informing us that there was an official visit to the hotel and added security would be present at the hotel for our first 2 days. If we had been made aware of the level of security at the point we booked this holiday we most defiantly wouldn’t of stayed here.Armed police patrolling the perimeter of the hotel, questioning you every time you entered the hotel grounds, luggage and body scanners by the main entrance and security staff at every corner of the building. Not only that on the day we checked in (we were not informed) of an event (a roof top party) at the hotel which took up half of the roof top which was meant to be for exclusive access during the day for guests that had paid for a suited room. The roof top party started in the evening and loud music was played until the early hours….which being on the 2nd floor and the roof being the 5th floor it was still loudly heard! We were surprised how small a suited room was, but knowing the building is quite old we let it go. However for a 5 star hotel the finishings of the room is just not quite up to standard, the wet room en-suite was full of black mould along the sealant and TV only had 2 channels that worked and when we requested reception to send maintenance to assist this they never did. Our balcony was incredibly small and overlooked from both sides and front, and every morning we woke up to cigarette ash covering our balcony from people on the roof top bar from the evening before. You seem to be totally ripped off for eating at the roof top bar to the lower pool with a Caesar salad at the lower pool being €14 and on the roof top bar €22 and the quality of food is not brilliant, menus at all 3 bars are very basic and all very similar and to which the menus do not change. Every morning around 6am we were woken to staff setting up for the breakfast shift which for a relaxing break is not what is wanted! Waiting staff however were lovely and quite frankly couldn’t be faulted. It was sadly a total let down for a hotel we thought would be so special and staying at other Barcelo owned hotels which had be lower star rated really did make it a sad experience.

A really positive experience! I have called beforehand to ask if the rooftop bar is available for non guests and to my surprise it was. The location looks amazing and the views are nice! The service was friendly and the prices are manageable if you take into account the location, the attention to details, and the friendliness of the staff who went above and beyond with the level of service. They were also able to accommodate my requests.
